Are Central Park Bike Tours Kid-Friendly?

Bicycling is a great way to experience Central Park. It is faster than walking yet slow enough to take in all the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings of the park. Central Park bike tours are ideal for those who can ride. You may rent a bike at the park or bring one of your own. Ride through the park on your own, stopping as often and wherever you like. Or, join a bike tour and ride with others and a tour guide.

Bikes for Kids

Of course, bring the family! Dad, Mom, and all the kids will enjoy riding through Central Park together. There are kids’ bikes for rent, but the child must be at least 4’6” tall, be able to use the hand brakes, and be able to clear the crossbar when mounting the bike. The little ones can ride in a bike trailer attached to a parent or guardian’s bike. The bicycle tour leader or rental agent has the right to determine whether or not a child is capable of safely operating a bike or should ride in a trailer. Helmets are required for all riders. Safety vests are added for the evening tours.

Check out the Zoo

Central Park bike tours have guides who are wonderful at telling you about things you will see along the way. The kids, especially the older ones, will love seeing the Belvedere castle. You can also see Hollywood movie sets and the occasional wandering movie star walking through the park. The Central Park Zoo is a must-see for kids of all ages. The Tisch Children’s Zoo, a part of the Central Park Zoo, is geared especially to the younger set. However, you will enjoy it just as much as your kids.

The Belvedere Castle is every child’s dream playground. They can explore all the nooks and crannies. The telescopes placed strategically throughout can help them watch out for the enemy. The tour you choose may depend on how much time is spent at each stop along the route.

Safety Tips

Safety is the number one concern for the bicycle tour guides. Therefore, expect to follow their instructions, which are for the good of all. Keeping close to the guide is important, especially for children. No parent wants the fright of losing their child during Central Park bike tours. So, when you ride with children, make sure they are with you at all times.
